To Any Breast Cancer Survivor (Poem)

It has picked you among all

You and not any other…

Even though it seems random,

You were chosen…

Only because you can hold

and not fall

It strikes, not waiting for a welcome

Even if you would!

It’s a game to play,

One that has no goal…

Unless, of course, you decide it should

Be positive, be strong and don’t worry

You will always be pretty,

Don’t bother.

Cancer won’t kill you,

It’s your challenge to win…

To fight your tears with all the joy you’ve got,

even if through a shirt or an assembly or a pin…

Go on strong and fight like a girl

Your smiles, and not the stress, deserve to remain

What I say now is way less,

than the so many lines, and words, and songs you’ve heard before!

You are not a subject to a poem,

You are so much more

Life is too long to sum in words,

And still too short without them…

It is not a lab report that tells you where to go,

Or a doctor’s grim.

Since you exist,

Until you cease…

Boy or girl … man or lady!

Live and fight … Don’t freeze.
