Discrimination and segregation have infiltrated our world ever since humanity came into existence, and it is not staggering to know that it still exists today. I have been a victim of inequity myself, in my own country- Palestine. This obstructs not only my life, but the lives of my family and millions of other Palestinians as well.
My land has been terrorized, and my identity has been erased. I do not feel safe within the walls of my own house and the boundaries of my own country. My own life is uncertain, facing impervious threat every second of the day. I not only fear for myself, but for those whom I love. They deserve nothing but eternal happiness, but their lives could be swindled and their hopes could be demolished in the blink of an eye. My life could be terminated on the hands of the nefarious villains that terrorized my lands without anybody fluttering, all because I am perceived as evil, when that is veritably untrue.
Not only am I made to feel like an outcast by the outsiders in my home country, but I am also debased and vilified. They treat me with inferiority, and think that they can herd me around according to whatever pleases them. The most I can do is scowl. If I show any signs of defiance, even in the most inconspicuous ways, I’ll take a bullet in the abdomen because that is just how insignificant I am to them. Their delusion and complacency made them believe that I am not deserving of security or tranquillity. They oppress me just to toy with me and appease their distasteful appetites. It thrills them immensely to shackle me, and my anguish gives them a reason to jubilate.
We need to stand up against injustice. We need to awaken our sense of prudence and distinguish between what’s right and what’s wrong. We all have voices, so let’s use them for what truly ameliorates the world.
