Caught In the Fire

It was the scariest day of my life. Every morning I wake up in blatant ignorance towards the sudden possibility of a catastrophic event. But on that very day, I realized I’d taken each and every one of those graceful mornings for granted.
Snoozing on my living room couch, I heard the fire alarms in my building going off. Normally, I would pass it off as a false alarm and go back to my blessed afternoon nap. But this time, it seemed serious, especially when the security guard actually went on the intercom requesting immediate evacuation of the building. I woke up in total distress and felt completely disoriented. I quickly gathered my thoughts and started to evacuate in haste.
I exited my house door and went straight for the staircase. Living on the twelfth floor, you can imagine how unpractical the situation was. When I finally reached ground floor I discovered that the door was barred and that there was no way out. Just when you thought it could not get any worse, the smoke started to accumulate and I began to suffocate. I quickly ran up to the nearest window, and as I stuck my head out to breath, I saw the fire trucks below my building. I waved my hands out the window as hard as I could until I was identified, and eventually rescued.
To conclude this intense story, it is crucial to stress on the importance of being attentive to all kinds of crisis calls, and to be prepared for any potential catastrophe at all times. Never take your life for granted.
