“Nada it’s already six thirty, you should be getting ready for school by now!” said my mother as I gathered my consciousness to face the bitter reality of a Sunday morning. Despite the unpleasant thought of attending a boring class, I felt an overwhelming sense of productivity that day. I wanted to do something new, something that would become my getaway where I can clear my thoughts. After class, I headed to check the list of activity clubs that my school offers. The list included all sorts of skills such as drawing, writing, fencing, cooking, and the list keeps going on. I found myself lost between the ongoing list of activities. So, I decided to try out my luck with a number of clubs in hopes of finding the perfect skill that suits me. Trying out various clubs wasn’t the best decision I made.
I began to feel demotivated and lost after failing multiple attempts. Another factor that discouraged me was the fact that I was surrounded by talented individuals. They effortlessly had their tasks done and seemed to have a clear insight of their capabilities and where they fit in. As my demotivated self walked through the empty hallways of school, I spotted a flyer announcing a graphic design competition that will be held. I regained my confidence to give myself a last chance to participate. With a background in graphic designing, trying out for the competition was a chance to prove myself. After sleepless nights of hard work, my computer crashed two weeks prior to the deadline. There was no trace left of the project I was working on. The only choice I had was to start all over again from scratch. I was able to put in the right dedication, hard work, and planning to achieve a wonderful piece of art in a short period of time. On the due date, I presented my work and hoped for the best. That day felt like the longest day of my life as I waited for the announcement of winners.
It was finally time and I was dazed with joy as my name was called out to attain the first place in the competition. I was no longer in question of my capabilities and knew exactly where I fit in as a talented individual. My journey of search did not only uncover my talent but also guided me in the discovery of a career to purse for the rest of my life.
